As dogs mature, their nutritional requirements shift. Understanding this, we recognise the need for specific nutrition tailored to address the common issues associated with ageing in senior dogs.

Their digestive system - including the delicate balance of microorganisms in the gut - starts to change which can affect digestive function. Prebiotics like inulin and live probiotics can support a healthy, balanced microbiome, and other high-fibre ingredients aid in regulating bowel function. Including these components in a balanced diet can contribute to overall wellbeing in senior dogs.

When it comes to protein, high quality can be as important as total quantity when it comes to senior dogs.

Higher quality protein sources are more ‘bioavailable’, meaning they are easier for the body to digest and utilise.

Ensuring senior dogs receive adequate levels of high-quality protein may support lean muscle maintenance and overall health. Quality protein also helps make the products in our Mature range even more delicious.

Senior dogs also often require reduced caloric intake as they slow down. As they grow even older, they often benefit from a caloric boost. So, it’s important to adjust the caloric intakes of your dog according to their changing needs, ensuring they maintain a healthy weight and energy level as they age.

As dogs age, their mobility can also be affected. Omega-3s and supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin help maintain mobility, encouraging our senior companions to stay active and comfortable.

By providing older dogs with the nutrients they need, we can help them enjoy their golden years to the fullest.
